This program is a one-semester (fall or spring) or ful academic year course of study at the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts that is offered in the fall and spring semesters of each academic year
Participating students pursue their studies under the supervision of the appropriate faculty of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
The Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts occupies a beautiful, spacious campus in the suburbs of the city of Kingston. Its faculty is composed of the most renowned performers and artists of the English-speaking Caribbean.
The Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts is a designated Inter-American Centre of the Organization of American States; the only so designated Centre in the English-speaking Caribbean. Founded in 1970, as the Cultural Training Centre of Jamaica, the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts is comprised of the Schools of Art, Dance, Drama and Music.
The Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts offers programs leading to (four year) degrees, diplomas and (three year) certificates in Dance, Music, Art and Drama, Education, Technique, and Performer/Teacher preparation. While the curricula of all of these schools stress technique and theory, all also include a program of general studies, including such courses as "Caribbean Studies, "The Arts in Society", and "Language and Communication".
Kingston, Jamaica
Jamaica is a tropical paradise; it has long been a haven for sun-seeking tourists and is justly famous for its beaches, its tropical rain forests, and its tranquil and friendly people and climate.

Participants in the Brockport Performing Arts in Jamaica Program will normally be enrolled in the second-year program at the appropriate School of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Each participant's course of study will be selected with advisement by the staff at the College.
A typical program of study will usually include, in addition to performance, theory and technique courses, courses in the cross-disciplinary study of the traditional Caribbean folk-experiences of each artistic medium.
The central focus of the program and its curriculum is to enable the participants to acquire an awareness of the richness and variety of the culture in which they are living, and to learn about and to practice the artistic forms which are unique to that culture.
Participants must arrive in Kingston at least a few days prior to the beginning of classes. At the beginning of the semester, each student will select the courses s/he will enroll in during that semester. As a rule, participants will enroll in a 15 credit second-year program in the appropriate school.
Before the start of classes, each student will participate in a pre-session orientation program in Kingston organized by the program's representative.
Housing is provided for participants in the Brockport Jamaica Program in on-campus self-catering suites [units of six single-occupancy bedrooms sharing a common living area (living room/dining area/kitchen)] in a newly built (completed in Spring 1995) residence hall/hotel.
