The two solutions address the range of rights management capabilities from simple to sophisticated models. InterTrustÆs sophisticated DRM technology is designed to protect and manage peoplesÆ rights and interests in digital information. The software platform enables new commercial models and markets by allowing people and organizations to define rules for using digital information, apply rules persistently after information is distributed, and participate in a global system for digital commerce, called the MetaTrust UtilityÖ. MetaTrust DRM is for all content providers who are developing a new spectrum of advanced Internet purchase and distribution models using the Web and other networks. The MS WMT solution provides simple rights management capabilities for vending content over the Internet in an encrypted file format. This solution packages and encrypts the media files by locking them with a "key." Consumers need to obtain a separate license containing the key to play a packaged media file with the player. Media files and licenses are stored and managed separately.
