If you cannot find help here, you may call POWERdisc Technical Support at 602-366-5050 during standard business hours. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ADOBE ACROBAT FILES. Due to popular demand, we are now including Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files for our supplier and product information. In order to view these files, you must have a version of Acrobat Reader on your system. When running the Setup.exe for POWERdisc, you will be given the option to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 to your system. Make sure that you install the correct version for your operating system software, or an error message could result. If you choose not to install during the setup, but would like to install Acrobat Reader at a later time, run the executable located in the MACD\ACROREAD\ directory on the CD. Run the 16bit version for Windows 3.x, or the 32bit version for Windows 95 or NT. ---------------------------------------------------------------- HOW TO CONTACT US If you have any comments about POWERdisc or would like to suggest other features to be included in future editions, call 1-800-336-1800, ext. 5905. Higher color settings are recommended to avoid palette problems (color flashes) when switching between screens or videos. A 486 with a double-speed or faster CD-ROM drive is recommended for smooth-running videos and speed considerations. A sound card and speakers are required to hear the audio portions of POWERdisc. ---------------------------------------------------------------- RUNNING FROM A NETWORK This version of POWERdisc includes the ability to run from a CD-ROM drive attached to the network server. Note that POWERdisc must be installed to local hard drive(s). Alternately, the entire CD-ROM may be copied to a network hard drive and installed from that drive. NOTE: This will require approximately 500MB on the network hard drive. ---------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION PROBLEMS Memory-resident programs such as anti-virus programs or memory managers may cause problems during installation. If you are having trouble installing POWERdisc, disable all memory-resident programs and memory managers, and try again. Once POWERdisc has been installed successfully, the memory-resident programs and memory managers can be re-enabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------- MICROSOFT VIDEO FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION POWERdisc requires the presence of Microsoft's Video for Windows to operate correctly. If you do not have Video for Windows on your system, you can install version 1.1d by running SETUP.EXE in the \MACD\RUNTIME directory on POWERdisc. If you have an older version of Video for Windows, we strongly suggest that you install this newer one. If you encounter problems during the Video for Windows installation, use Windows Setup to set your system to Standard Windows VGA mode, then run the setup program again. Once the installation is successful, you may return your system to your typical graphics mode. Any beginning or ending videos on POWERdisc can be bypassed by double-clicking on the POWERdisc screen while the video is playing. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEMS WHILE USING THE PRICE GUIDE (see also the Price Guide read me file, V40.TXT) If you do not know your PIN number, please contact your principal or call your MicroAge Customer Service Representative. Using "Large Fonts" in your video driver setup may cause improper formatting of text in these sections of POWERdisc. If you encounter this problem, use Windows Setup or your video card setup software and choose "Small Fonts." If you get an "Unable to Open File" or other error while using the price guide, check your CONFIG.SYS file to be sure it contains the following line: Files = 60 If the "Files" statement is set to a number lower than 60, increase it to 60 or more. If you continue to get the error, check your system for a SHELL.CFG file and be sure it contains the following line: FileHandles = 60 If the "FileHandles" statement is set to a number lower than 60, increase it to 60 or more. If the error is still present after making these changes, increase your Windows swap file size to at least 20 MB. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PRINTING PROBLEMS -- RichImage If you experience problems printing documents using the RichImage Portable Document application used on POWERdisc, please read the RichImage READ_ME.RCH file located on POWERdisc in the \MACD\RICHIMAGE directory.
