| 1. Introduction
+=========================-

   The DivX 6.1.1 codec represents a performance leap of
   mammoth proportions. Gigantic in fact. One could almost
   go so far as to call it monumental. Gargantuan. A
   colossal performance leap of behemothic proportion
   eclipsing all others in an earth-shattering event never
   before witnessed by human kind. Fear the proportions,
   oh yes, for they are undeniably ... proportionate.

   For five months the DARC team have been locked away deep
   in their secret underground lab optimizing the DivX
   codec, fine tuning every last code routine, testing their
   work on next generation processors and preparing
   for the end of the world. (You know it’s coming.)

   As a result, the DivX 6.1.1 codec now has full support for
   single CPU, HyperThreaded (HT), SMP and dual core
   processors, achieving up to 250% better encoding
   performance compared to the DivX 6.0 codec on
   cutting-edge hardware, and up to 180% better performance
   for typical desktop computers. There are also two new
   modes dedicated to high speed encoding - both fully
   compatible with certified devices - a brand new one-pass
   quality-based encoding mode that can reduce encoding
   time by half, improved flexibility for HD encoding
   parameters and, of course, much, much more.

| 2. New in this version
+=========================-

   * Full support for single CPU, HyperThreaded (HT), dual
     CPU (SMP), and dual core processors in both the
     encoder and decoder. Encoding performance is vastly
     improved on systems with multiple logical processors,
     while better quality and smoother high definition
     playback is now possible for all DivX HD video.

   * Various optimizations have been added for processors
     supporting SSE2 extensions.

   * The performance of Extreme Quality and Insane Quality
     modes has been improved allowing you to get production
     quality video in even less time!

   * A new High-performance mode has been created that is a
     whopping 40% faster than Balanced mode in the 6.0
     codec. This mode yields slightly lower compression but
     is perfectly suited to live-capture applications and
     the output will play on certified devices.

   * Fastest mode now achieves much better compression with
     virtually zero performance impact. It is finally
     possible to use this mode to encode directly into a
     DivX video profile with reasonable quality and still
     maintain small file sizes.

   * DivX High Definition profile now allows up to 6Mbps
     average bitrate for crystal clear HD video, even with
     your nose pressed against your 60" HD plasma TV.

   * You can now specify a target quantizer instead of an
     average bitrate during encoding. This new method is
     available in conjunction with DivX encoding profiles,
     and in many cases can be substituted for 2-Pass and
     multipass encoding.

   * The codec now supports Lanczos resize filters for very
     sharp resizing, giving improved video quality.

   * Quarter-pixel motion estimation has been enhanced for
     performance and is now available in all modes from
     Balanced through Insane when 'Unconstrained profile'
     is selected. Please remember that using quarter-pixel
     motion estimation (or simply switching to
     Unconstrained profile) means that your videos are
     unlikely to play well in certified devices.

   * The Feedback Window now displays VBV level and has
     variable axis for PSNR plots, making it easy to
     monitor encodes with very high PSNR metric results.
