25-Apr-1996 - Just Ask Computer Services ChangExt v1.03 - Windows 95/NT Extension Changer Description: ChangExt is a shell extension that adds a menu item to any file object so that the file extension or type may be changed. A new extension may either be typed-in manually or chosen from a list of registered extension names (as appearing in the registry file). Any extension may be viewed by simply right-clicking the desired file. Selecting this menu is only required in order to change the extension or view the registered extension description. This program was written for Windows 95 and tested on Windows NT 4.0 beta (build 1234). The only known outstanding issue at this time is a invalid menu command description appearing in the status bar of NT Explorer windows when the 'Extension' menu is selected. Installation: 1) Copy all files to a floppy disk or to a subdirectory (.INF install files seem to not work with long pathnames so limit all directory names to 8.3 format). 2) Right click CHANGEXT.INF and select Install. 3) If a shutdown and restart message is displayed then do so. 4) Right clicking on any file object (except shortcuts) should have a "Extension: xxx" added to the menu. Operation: 1) Right click on the file you wish to rename. 2) Either select a registered file type from the list or type in the extension in the displayed edit box. 3) Hit OK to continue with the rename, or Cancel to abort.
