Repair corrupted files

Occasionally, your data file may contain some inconsistencies that can cause errors in Money. If this occurs, you can use Money's built-in salvage tool to repair your data file. In most cases, this will repair your data. If you continue to get an error message after the repair, you can use the Super Salvage utility (included on your Money 2002 CD-ROM or available on the Web) to repair your data.

Use Money's built-in salvage tool (try this first).
  1. Quit Money.
  2. On the taskbar, click the Start button, and then click Run.
  3. Choose the file you want to repair.
  4. I want to repair the last file I used in Money

In the Open box, type the following (including the quotation marks).

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Msmoney.exe" -s

Note If you installed Money in a location other than the default location, type the path to the program, wherever it is located. Be sure to include the quotation marks as indicated.

I want to repair a file other than the last one I used in Money

In the Open box, type the following (including the quotation marks). The file you want to repair will have the file name extension .MNY. In this example, the file is stored in the My Documents folder on the hard disk on which Microsoft Windows is installed, and the file is filename.mny.

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\Stystem\Msmoney.exe" -s "C:\My Documents\filename.mny"

Note If your data file is stored elsewhere, adjust the path as appropriate. Be sure to include the quotation marks as indicated.

  5. Click OK to open and repair the specified file. You'll see a progress indicator.
