Time Value of Money

This screen lets you calculate the time value of money, i.e. given an initial amount, an interest rate, and an amount of time, you can calculate how much money will result. You can also do what-if scenarios; for example, given a desired amount, how much do you need to invest now.

Example: If you invest $10,000 at 5% for 10 years, how much money will you have? Enter 5, then press the Annual Rate button. Enter 10000, then press the Principal button. Enter 10, then tap the Years button. Now, press the ? button to the right of the Future Value button. The value next to Future Value shows you'll have $16288.95

Example: Given the above example, how much do you need to put away now to get $20,000 in 10 years, at 5%? Enter 20000, then tap the Future Value button. Now tap the ? button to the right of the Principal button, and you'll see you need to invest $12278.27.

Example: How long will it take to turn $10,000 into $20,000 at 5%? Enter 10000, then press the Principal button. Now press the ? button to the right of the Years button, and you'll see it will take 14.21 years to double your money at 5%.

Notes for this screen: The interest rate compounds annually.
