A very large, mottled-brown night bird that perches upright on a tree limb or post waiting to sally out after insects. Length: 38-44 cm.; weight: 210-251 g. Breeds on Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba, and in Central America. Accidental on Mona and Desecheo Islands (5 Dec. 1974 and 24 Oct. 1987 respectively).
