A small green hummingbird with an iridescent red throat and a slightly forked, black tail. Females and immatures lack the red throat but have a white-tipped tail (see photos below). Length: 7.5-9 cm.; weight: males 3.4 g., females 3.8 g. Audio (L. Brown). Breeds in eastern North America and winters in Central America. Accidental in coastal areas and gardens in Puerto Rico.
