A caracara similar to this species once lived on Puerto Rico but is now extinct. Length: 49-58 cm.; weight: 1,050-1,300 g. Audio (M. Oberle). RANGE: The Crested Caracara occurs from Florida and Texas south to northern South America and Cuba. Accidental on Jamaica. TAXONOMY: FALCONIDAE; Caracarinae. Formerly lumped with two other species as Caracara plancus. |
