Similar to the Northern Harrier, but with a pale head, dark eye line, white leading edge to the wing, and darker belly. The female has a white patch in the flight feathers and lacks the white rump patch of the female and immature Northern Harrier. Holds its wings in a "V" as it hovers low over marshlands. Length: 48-56 cm.; weight: 405-800 g. Breeds in Europe and winters in marshes of southern Europe, Africa and south Asia. Accidental in Puerto Rico (Laguna Cartagena National Wildlife Refuge, 14 January-4 February, 2004).
