A large, white wading bird with a featherless, gray head, a black tail and black trailing edge of the wings. Length: 85-115 cm.; weight: 2,050 - 3,090. Audio (L. Bryan). Breeds in swamps in the southern USA, through lowland Central America to Argentina. Accidental in Hispaniola; may eventually be reported from Puerto Rico.
