Dull brown or buffy grasslands bird with a light eye line, streaked undersides, a slender bill and white outer tail feathers. Length: 15-17 cm.; weight: 19-26 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Bobs its tail as it walks. There are three subspecies which vary in size and the shading of coloration: gray to buffy. Breeds in northern North America and winters in the southern USA south to El Salvador. Accidental on other West Indian islands, e.g., Bahamas, Jamaica, Swan Island. May eventually be reported from Puerto Rico.
