ARCserve / Open 2.0 Datasheet

ARCserveĀ«/Open is a powerful data management tool for your UNIX network, offering high speed back-up and restore capabilities. It runs on all leading versions of the UNIX operating system, and supports UNIX, NetWare and Microsoft Windows clients. ARCserve/Open offers a simple interface that doesn't test your patience, while providing bulletproof back-up that won't disappoint you.

TOP PERFORMANCE

State-of-the-art backup software must be fast and accurate, and you should never have to make a choice between the two! ARCserve/Open can perform at peak speeds of over 100MB per minute on a single drive. Cheyenne's Parallel Streaming feature increases throughput further by backing up to, and restoring from, several devices simultaneously. In addition, through automatic identification of SCSI tape drives and parameter configuration, drive performance is optimized while system administrator productivity is increased. With access to real-time statistics, you can monitor the status of back-up and restore jobs as they occur.

INTUITIVE INTERFACE

Most likely, you have little time to spend learning how to use each new software package that comes your way. ARCserve/Open's Motif-based graphical user interface practically leads you through your backup and restore jobs. Point-and-click icons enable you to initiate many functions with merely a mouse click.

AUTOMATED DATA MANAGEMENT

ARCserve/Open is more than just a back-up and restore solution, it also helps you to manage your system more efficiently. Using its Auto Pilot feature it intelligently rotates tapes and manages disk space, based on your needs - derived from the parameters you set. The Tape Rotation feature ensures that you're always using the right tape at the right time. ARCserve/Open will help you label tapes and locate the appropriate backup tape, yet if you accidentally choose the wrong tape ARCserve/Open will prevent the overwrite. Disk Grooming frees valuable disk space by moving dormant files from the server to tape.

ARCserve/Open's Changer Option, coupled with a supported single or multi-drive autochanger, provides fully automated, high capacity data management. Tapes can be accessed randomly, making any tape available for back-up and restore.

FLEXIBLE FUNCTIONALITY

ARCserve/Open is designed with the busy administrator in mind, hence it offers unsurpassed flexibility. You may run full, incremental or differential back-up jobs, schedule them to run at any time, and then later reschedule or even delete the job. You might use these scheduling options to take advantage of off-peak hours, so that your back-up job will not affect other employee operations. Back-up jobs may be based on filters such as name, directory, creation date, modification date, and access date.
