Parts-Master Service

To identify parts, find substitutes and estimate project costs

Here's another good answer to parts selection from the Federal Supply Catalog--the IHS Parts-Master Service on CD-ROM. This service permits you to quickly find data on alternative parts and sources for government-purchased items. You can batch search by National Item Identification Number (NIIN), part number, or a combination. Fast, fill-in-the-blank technical characteristics searching, including "range searching," speeds you to the answers you need. You can also download information from the database, and integrate it into your internal databases and spreadsheets.

Types of Data

Parts-Master includes information from more than 22 government databases, including MCRL; ML-C; H2; H6; H4/8 CAGE Code; DoD I&S; ILs; Procurement Histories from Army, Navy, Air Force, and DoD purchasing records; MOE; Air Force D043/D043X; Army AMDF; and Navy SPCC/CRF.

Updating and Operating Environments

Parts-Master is updated monthly (updating frequency of a single data source varies between one and 12 times a year). It is CD-ROM and DOS-based and can be networked on dumb terminals that use a VAX or other minicomputer system with asynchronous communications. It can also be networked on LANs using either NetBIOS or IPX, including Novell, Ungerman-Bass, 3COM, and Orchid.
