Light Up Your Documents With The Power of Images
Capture images and capture your audience's imagination. Get your reader's full attention by giving them vibrant images. To add attention-getting images to your documents, you need a scanner. To get the most power and speed from your scanner, you need Pixel!SCAN.
Pixel!SCAN is available either as a stand alone application package, or as the front-end module to Pixel!FX, Mentalix's premier beginning-to-end image manipulation package. Pixel!SCAN serves as an easy-to-use interface to many of today's popular scanners, and it empowers your business with line art, grayscale and true color images.
Select the image type - line art, grayscale, or 24 bit color -- and then use the Prescan function to perform a low-resolution preview scan and display a color representation of the image on the scan window. Select the desired area to scan interactively by dragging a selection area around image or by entering precise position and sizing information using inches, centimeters, picas or points measures. For fine adjustment you can use the zoom in/zoom out and scrolling features on the prescan window to more closely examine the selection area. Use selection area resize handles to interactively control the precise specification of the scan area.
Pixel!SCAN supports the full optical resolution range of supported scanners. You can even set independent x/y resolutions if this is supported by your scanner. Size and output control features allow interactive adjustments to resolution, size, and output parameters. Automatically set scanning settings to match the output size and line screen you specify. Your scan size and resolution settings changes will automatically be reflected in the scan dialog report area along with the projected scanned image size.
After you have selected the area to scan, you can make adjustments for accurate or improved reproduction of color, grayscale or line art image quality. Use automatic adjustment option to determine the appropriate Look-Up Table (LUT) and/or scan settings for the particular scanner or use the extensive set of color/gray level controls. A histogram display shows the distribution of scan intensities over the selected prescan area, allowing intelligent adjustment of white point, mid point and black point. Intuitive controls allow easy adjustment of image intensity, contrast, or gamma correction. The prescan image display is updated in real-time on supported displays to show a preview of all current adjustment settings for optimum results. Pixel!SCAN uses these selections to perform a final scan that is, in many cases, better than the original image. Pixel!SCAN also supports advanced color adjustment using custom LUTs that you provide. While scanning is limited to just 24 bit color, all color adjustments or custom LUTs take full advantage of the state-of-the-art 30 bit and 36 bit scanners.
You can also save and reload most scan settings combinations for repetitive tasks and you can easily customize initial scan settings for each Pixel!SCAN user.
Pixel!SCAN's Scan to File features lets you scan an image directly to a TIFF file, allowing scanning of images larger than available swap space. If you are not viewing or editing images, the Scan to File feature is the quickest and most efficient way to get scan results.
Do you work with multiple photographs or other images on your flatbed or drum scanner at the same time? Then, you need Pixel!SCAN's all new Gang Scanning capability to be more productive. With the Scan Gang Add button, you can select any number of areas to scan, each with their own custom scan settings. Then, Click on the Scan Gang button to execute a batch scan of multiple areas and load each area into its own image window. Gang scanning also works with the Scan to File feature if you want to store all scanned images directly to Tiff files.
Pixel!SCAN also already includes a script-based programming interface, so that you can easily perform scanning from the Unix command line or from within other applications. The full-featured control language allows you to control most all scan settings. Repetitive scan tasks are a breeze with this powerful addition to the Pixel!SCAN product.
