S-Designor Enterprise
StarDesignor is the highly-affordable entry level product that is simple to use and lets users graphically construct physical models of their databases from which the database structure is generated. All features listed in the Designor Division description are applicable.
Target audience: Developers and DBAs not yet ready for a design methodology who wish to have an introduction to the powerful features of the Designor Division.
S-Designor Professional is a full-featured data modeling tool for single-designers of complex client/server applications. It allows users to abstract data design into separate and distinct conceptual and physical models through the Information Engineering methodology. The conceptual model, also called the business or logical model, gives an intuitive graphical representation of the database structure without any physical details. S-Designor constructs a separate physical model by translating all logical notation into physical terms. Further physical characteristics can be defined by the designer. This capability is critical to maintain a non-DBMS specific data design, to show a non-technical picture of the database structure, and to ease future maintenance. Submodeling enables complex designs to be broken down into smaller models while maintaining unique object definition. The Professional edition also bridges design and development by fully integrating with major development tools through query-object generation and extended attribute definition. Development tools supported include PowerBuilder, Progress, Uniface, SQLWindows, Omnis, Axiant, and others. S-Designor for PowerBuilder uses screens designed specifically for PowerBuilder to define extended attributes to guarantee complete PowerBuilder integration.
Target audience: Sites with one or two designers who wish to develop complex client/server applications.
S-Designor Enterprise is the multi-designer version of S-Designor Professional, and it features a central dictionary which may be located on any ODBC-compliant DBMS or on an internal Watcom database. It allows design data to be shared between several designers and includes security checks to monitor any conflicts in overlapping access rights between designers.
Target audience: Multi-designer sites who wish to design very complex client/server applications.
