DALLAS, Texas -- March 13, 1995 -- Pure Software(R) today announced Purify(R), the industry-leading run-time error detection tool, for Silicon Graphics' computer systems. Purify helps developers quickly and accurately detect run-time errors in UNIX applications wriiten in C and C++, increasing software reliability and quality. Additionally, Purify decreases the overall development cycle by reducing the time spent debugging code. Purify will be integrated with the Developer Magic environment, Silicon Graphic's integrated visual software development environment, providing programmers more development options.

Porting to Silicon Graphics underscores PureSoftware's dedication to extending Purify to industry-leading platforms and to helping customers increase software quality,รถ said Reed Hastings, president and CEO of Pure Software. "With this new release of Purify, we are broadening our reach to developers in the Silicon Graphics world.

"Our developers will be thrilled to have the opportunity to use Purify in conjunction with the Developer Magic environment," said Jim Ambras, director of software development environments for the Visual Magic division at Silicon Graphics, Inc. "Purify's run-time error checking supplements Silicon Graphic's development tools, offering our customers a more complete solution for developing high-quality visual software applications.

Increased Software Quality

Purify quickly and effectively detects and pinpoints run-time errors, the leading cause of unexpected system failures. It enables developers to streamline their debugging process and produce reliable, higher-quality software in a timely manner. Purify incorporates Pure Software's unique Object Code Insertion (OCI) technology. OCI examines the object code and inserts checking instructions around every memory function to monitor usage at run time and report illegal memory accesses and leaks. It allows Purify to comprehensively analyze the entire application, including shared memory and third-party libraries, with minimal impact on system performance.

Price and Availability

Purify will be available for IRIX(TM) 5.3 and above computer systems in the third quarter of 1995. The suggested U.S. list price for Purify is $1,298 per license and includes support. Purify is currently available for the Solaris 2.3 and above, SunOS 4.1 and above, and HP PA-RISC platforms.
