SNA-Expert is a software product from Alcatel Bell that integrates the standard functions of Solstice SunNet Manager with management functions for SNA networks. The principal features of SNA-Expert are the automatic discovery of the SNA network configuration and its incorporation into Solstice SNM views, and the fault and alarm reporting based on high level filtering and correlation principles.

SNA-Expert is a software chain, consisting of:

The principal characteristics of SNA-Expert are the following:

As an option this software can be extended. New filtering and correlation rules can be defined or other alarms can be considered (e.g. application alarms).

In the SNA network, an NM-Bridge software has to be installed and configured on each host. Currently, the NM-Bridge runs on the MVS operating system.

The connection between SNA network and the Sun machine is done through a LU6.2 session with one of the NM-Bridges. For this, an SDLC line, or token ring connection has to be configured on the Sun, and in the SNA network. The Sun machine must be a SPARC, with color screen, 64 Mb of main memory, at least 120 Mb of swap space and 100 Mb of free disk space for software installation. Moreover, the Sunlink SNA Peer-to-Peer communication software (LU6.2) is required.
