GNUtar
The Free Software Foundation
tar (gnutar) is now included in the release
package. Gnutar is the standard, open, readily available version of tar
that is available for many system platforms. It is included in the SAM-FS
release package for installation on various customer platforms as part of
a disaster recovery plan. Gnutar is used to read the standard tar formatted
tapes created by SAM-FS in the disaster scenario where the SAM-FS system
is completely lost, and by using gnutar on another separate platform allows
access to the archived data readily.
