Command and Conquer Level Level Name: Ultimate Challenge Created By: James Alton (GVTW20A or GVTW20A@prodigy.com) Completion time: I spent about a week of actual time on this level, including testing. Release Date: October 11, 1996 Map information: Large (62x62), temperate theatre. New map created from scratch. Player: GDI Difficulty: Very Hard Filename: Ultimat.zip File contents: scg33ea.ini, scg33ea.bin, mission.ini savegame.043 and ultimat.txt Created using CCMAP and CCADD running under OS/2 Warp. It was really nice to have both editors and the game running so that I could easily switch from one program to another...saved lots of time! Hardware used: Pentium 133Mhz Tested on Command and Conquer version 1.07 and under Covert Operations version 1.20 Mission Description ------------------- Nod has recently destroyed one of our key bases. The remanants of the base are located just North of your drop point. The Nod base is reported to be heavily defended and has taken full advantage of the natural surrondings to insure protection. They are well dug in and and supplied. There is apparently an information leak as Nod somehow knows that you are on your way. They have threatened to kill the POW's and destroy the remainder of our base so make haste if you want to save those valuable resources. Most of the Tiberium in this region was depleted by the previous commander who fought in vain to hold back Cain's forces. Fortunately there are a large number of Blossom trees , which appear to be the result of some cloning process that Nod has discovered.... Expect heavy resistence early on and take all measures to protect your base. As if this wasn't bad enough already, we have intelligence indicating that Nod is very close to developing Nuclear potential. Somewhere there is a tech-center, where the actual construction of this ultimate weapon is being completed. We recomend that you locate and destroy this structure as soon as you can. Reinforcements are in short supply, but we will try to send you what we can. Also the previous commander managed to steal 2 of Nod's stealth tanks, perhaps you can free these and make use of them. It is critical to GDI that this region be reclaimed and that the Nuclear threat be dismantled..good luck because your going to need it! Level Description ----------------- I designed this level to be very difficult. I have played a number of levels where it's just a matter off killing the harvesters and then eaisily over running the base. With this level it's more a matter of effeciently using available resources (Tiberium is limited) to systmatically destroy Nod's defenses and finally the base. This level is not impossible, but might seem that way sometimes. :) I recomend that you save your game often and take extra care to protect any special reinforcements that would be impossible to replace. Also keep your eyes open for crates as we hear that a few of these were left behind here and there. You will have to destroy every Nod unit and structure to win this level. There are some additional hints for those having difficulty in the "other information section at the end of this text file. I will also answer some Email concerning this level. Usage ----- Covert Operations: For those running Covert Operations, simply copy the following files to your Covert Operations directory and then choose "Ulitmate Challenge" from the New Missions list to start. SCG33EA.ini SCG33EA.bin MISSION.ini Command and Conquer original: Level replacement ----------------- This file is meant to replace the last GDI mission. It does work when used with other missions, but has been designed specifically for this mission. For those who don't want to bother messing around editing files, a savegame has been supplied that was taken the instant the level started. Simply copy this file (savegame.043) into your Command and Conquer directory (rename it if you don't want to lose one of your savegames). Then simply load that file when you start. You will not be able to restart the mission if you do this, you will have to re-load it if you need to try again. If you choose this method, you can ignore the next part. If you want something more complete, you need to have the GDI version of the general.mix file on your hard drive. You also need the program map-p.exe (available in the distribution of cc-scen; you can get this distribution from http://adam.com.au/~buggy amongst other places). Put the file scg33ea.ini into your Command and Conquer directory, along with the mission.ini file. Next you need to change the file extension of SCG33EA.bin to SCG33EA.map. Now you need to patch the general.mix file with the SCG33EA.map. Depending on which version of map-p you have, you can do this in two ways. The latest release allows you to simply type in an offset in the command line. You can patch the file with the command: map-p general.mix SCG33EA.map 2927442 If you have the older version of map-p, use the command map-p general.mix SCG33EA.map and when asked for the offset, type in 2cab52 and press Enter. You will now be able to use this scenario properly when you play the last GDI mission.(use CCMISS editor to change a old GDI savegame to level 15) Please note that since I developed and tested this game under Covert Operations and am not familiar with the procedure for patching the General.mix file in the procedure described above that this procedure may or may not work! I have tested the savegame under Command and Conquer version 1.07 and it work fine however. If you put the file mission.ini into your Command and Conquer directory, you will not be able to access the mission text for other missions until it is removed. If you are just using the savegame method and aren't patching the general.mix file, do not put the SCG33EA.ini file into your Command and Conquer directory. It may cause Command and Conquer to crash when you play the last GDI mission. Do not put the mission.ini file into this directory either if you are using this method. Other Information ----------------- If you are having difficulty surviving or winning this level, here are a few tips. Don't read them if you want to discover all of the solutions yourself: It is possible to save the repair pad in the very beginning of the game. You can also free and save both stealth tanks. To do this, set the game speed to minimum, Quickly tell your MCV, Humvee and APC to move towards the repair pad, then immediately sell the refinery, telling the minigunners provided by this sale to attack the SSM that is firing on your repair pad. Start the repair pad repairing itself and then quickly pan to the East where your stealth tanks are located, instruct both stealth tanks to fire on the fence and then immediatley tell them to move straight out so they can avoid the second SSM missle..you should be able to save both units. You can capture the crate in this area with one of your stealth tanks. Make use of your repair pad to repair all units before the big air drop by Nod. Quickly build a barracks, some infantry and get up as many regular guard towers as possible before the air invasion. Save your game often and back up/restart if you lose units/structures. Build just 2 refineries, there isn't enough Tiberium to justify more than this. When your SSM's arrive, you have only a short period of time in which to destroy the Tech-Center or you will be Nuked. Your SSM's can handle this job, just be careful to protect them and your base. You will need major fire power to attack the main base to the South, build up you forces before you move. You can remove some of the trees partially blocking the entrance if you want by using the CTRL key to tell a unit to attack that tree, this helps allow a more dense line of tanks. If you need more help, then drop me an E-mail at GVTW20A or GVTW20A@Prodigy.com. Don't be discouraged if this level seems hard, it's supposed to be! :) Good luck!
