Cemetery Card File

Cemetery Card Files

In addition to burial registers, many cemeteries create index card files to locate grave sites.
Don't forget to ask the sexton or clerk to look at the original register. It should contain more information than the card.
In some locations, the mortuary and cemetery are located in the same building. If a burial permit number appears on the card, ask to see the mortician's application for the burial permit.
If the lot owner's name differs from that of the deceased, ask for the owner's address. If the original owner has died, but burial space remains unused in the plot, his or her next-of-kin or a person responsible for the upkeep of the graves may be listed. Contact them for more information!
