Annulments

The names of the plaintiff and defendant have been removed from the example to comply with current privacy laws.
Marriages have been and can be annulled for a variety of reasons, the most common being the ineligibility of one of the parties who entered into the marriage agreement. For example, one or both of the parties was;
  • under the legal age to marry and forged a parental consent form
  • not free to marry because he or she had not obtained a legal divorce to end a prior marriage
  • mentally incompetent and could not enter into a legal contract
A civil court in most locations handled marriage annulments. Search court indexes, dockets, minutes, and order books for marriage annulment records.
