Knowing the exact birthplace or exact town where an immigrant ancestor resided before immigrating is a must if you want to trace their ancestry in the records of a foreign country. The passenger lists can be the key to discovering the name of an immigrant's birth place or foreign residence. |
A passenger's birthplace or residence appears most
often in the column labeled "Hailing place or Place of
starting."
Microfilmed copies of the passenger lists are available at the National archives and its Regional Centers, various public and private libraries, the LDS Family History library and its Centers, and various public and private libraries, and the LDS Family History Library and its Centers. |
