NAME

soundslike - spell word based on what it sounds like

SYNOPSIS

soundslike word
soundslike -filename word
soundslike word -filename

DESCRIPTION

Soundslike uses an implementation of the soundex algorithm. Type the word in question as best as you can, and the program will search a database for similar-sounding words. The default database is normally /usr/dict/words but the user may specify any other file.

Regardless of which file is specified as the database, only the first word of each line is tested against the users' word.

For example,

soundslike butiful
will produce:
beautiful biddable botfly
and
soundslike nessaccary
produces:
necessary

RESTRICTIONS
