VIRTUS CORP. TO SHIP VIRTUS WALKTHROUGH PRO 2.0 Award-winning 3-D Visualization Program Gets Even Better Cary, N.C. (October 26, 1994)--On October 31, Virtus Corp. will begin shipping Virtus WalkThrough Pro 2.0 for Macintosh, Power Macintosh and Windows computers. A powerful 3-D visualization program, WalkThrough Pro 2.0 features robust drawing tools, perspective-correct texture mapping, and the most effective and affordable combination of real-time 3-D rendering and "walk through" navigation in the industry. This release is an upgrade to Virtus WalkThrough Pro 1.0 (available for 680x0-based Macintosh computers only), which won the 1993 MacUser Editors' Choice award for Best New Computer-Aided Visualization Software and received 4 1/2 Mice when reviewed by that publication. Suggested retail price for WalkThrough Pro 2.0 is $495. Special upgrade prices, offering a savings of about 50 percent, are available through December 15 to registered users of Virtus WalkThrough, Virtus WalkThrough Pro and Virtus VR. WalkThrough Pro 1.0 was lauded for its intuitive interface, which features a 2-D Design View window where users draw objects, plus a companion Walk View window where those objects are instantly rendered in 3-D. Also in the Walk View, a mouse can be used to quickly and easily navigate in and around the models. The new version retains these basics while offering many enhancements. WalkThrough Pro 2.0 enables users to more easily manipulate their models with new tools, including two that select objects and surface features in the 3-D window, and a redesigned magnifying tool. This version also offers the option of collision detection and smooth shading, a rendering method that softens the edges of curved objects. It is also possible to embed textures when saving a file, create a custom screen with graphics and text for each file, and incorporate Virtus VR 2-D surface feature galleries and 3-D object galleries into WalkThrough Pro 2.0 scenes. "WalkThrough Pro's real-time rendering gives desktop computers the type of quality 3-D performance normally associated only with dedicated graphic workstations," says Scott Curtis, a Virtus product manager. Each WalkThrough Pro 2.0 package will include a free copy of Virtus Player in Macintosh/Power Macintosh and Windows versions. Virtus Player is a new publishing utility and real-time player that allows anyone to open and view (but not modify) any Virtus software model. It is freeware, and may be copied and distributed to clients, colleagues, family and friends. Founded in 1990 and based in Cary, N.C., Virtus Corp. develops and markets real-time 3-D rendering and visualization software for desktop computers. The company is privately held, but also backed by Motorola's New Enterprises Division. Virtus software has been employed in the development of major motion pictures including "The Abyss" and "The Firm," and is used throughout the world by architects, interior designers, directors, set designers, facilities planners and other creative professionals.
