3 Teatralnaya Square
The conservatoire is the oldest high musical school 
of Russia. It was created in 1862 by Russian 
Musical society (the idea of A.Rubinstein) on 
the base of Musical Classes organized in 
1860. The building was built in 1891-96 
(architect V.Nikol') on the place of Kamenny 
(Stone) Theater's building. Before 1866 the 
Conservatoire was called as Musical School.
