TITLE: Model 5 Support DOCUMENT #: FYI.S.31 DATE: May 22, 1992 PRODUCT: 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS PRODUCT VERSION: 2. SUPERSEDES: NA SYMPTOM: NA ISSUE/PROBLEM What adapter boards and monitors can the v2.x Workstation use for Model 5 (132 column) support? SOLUTION I. Version 2.00 provides Model 5 support: A. With any VGA board that has a Tseng Labs compatible chip set if used with any compatible VGA monitor. This includes among others: - Most Compaq 386 models - Orchid ProDesigner II cards - Tseng Labs EVA - Ahead Systems VGA Enhancer B. Any Standard EGA or VGA adapter that supports 132 column display IF used with: Sony MultiScan Monitors (or compatible with equivalent horizontal scan rate) OR NEC MultiSync 3D monitors (or compatible with equivalent horizontal scan rate) Unlike support for the Tseng compatible adapters this requires the selection and use of the proper driver among those supplied with the Workstation. HOWEVER: Drivers to provide Standard VGA Model 5 support can not be written for newer monitors with higher scan rates (ie NEC MultiSync 4FG) and they can therefore, only be used with one of the listed Super VGA adapters. II. Version 2.02 and MOD5.ZIP provide, in addition, drivers for Model 5 support with: - Any VGA boards that use a Western Digital chip set (such as Paradise VGA & TopVGA) - Everex Micro Enhancer Deluxe EGA board - Boca Basic VGA (Product Code: VGA006) board - IBM PS/2 Models 35/40/56/57
