SYMPTOM:  Error Message "Invalid ID String" 
 
ISSUE/PROBLEM 
The Router fails to link and the error message is received. 
 
 
SOLUTION 
The following trouble shooting process is recommended: 
1. If you are using a version earlier than 1.2 upgrade to 1.2.  This is 
particularly important if you are not using actual Hayes modems. 
 
2. When doing ARCONFIG use the delete key to remove all ID strings and 
passwords. 
 
3. If you selected "Hayes Compatible" the modems may not be returning true 
Hayes codes. 
-They may not be set up properly. 
- Although "Hayes Compatible" they may not be able to do this. 
 
4. The modems may be receiving noise. 
- Have the telephone company check the lines. 
- Make certain the line does not have features like call waiting. 
 
5. Try lowering the baud rate.

6. Turn off:
        - Data Compression
        - Error Checking
        - Software Flow Control
