Blackbook version 1.0 'readme' file Introduction Blackbook is designed to give quick access to telephone numbers/email addresses/postal addresses and the like. It was originally designed to be opened at startup and to sit on the desktop waiting for you - hence the neat little "Wrapup!" feature on the menu bar. Try it - it will not disappoint... It is somewhat customizable - in that if you always want a lot of information, choose the details - Wrapup when not in use, Wrapdown to bring the details out again. When I was programming it, I thought about how people enter telephone numbers- some (555) 555-1515, some 555/555-1212.... My personal favorite (to K.I.S.S.) is 555 555 1212. Just spaces - nothing more... So, it is programmed to accept just that many characters. Try it and fiddle around - I find it easier to be able to name things myself - not conform to a template. The same thing happens with the names. You most likely know who the person is by their first name, a nickname, whatever - no need to have last names separate from first names - there are no advanced search things here. It does allow room for 2 different addresses (for those of you in college or with college-aged friends - you can store both home and school addresses. However, for anything else (telephone/email/fax/etc...) you can just put it in the comments, I thought. You can, however, store a secondary/fax/and work phone #. Don't like it? E-Mail me (See the About menu) and let me know your feelings - I'll work on it for you... Maybe even give you your own version number! Wow! If that isn't a reason! Beyond that, it's pretty straight forward and very easy to use. Use the "+" to add a record. Use the "-" to delete. Use the "check" to accept what you've just done. Use the "x" to 'just say no'. Click the "Address 1"/"Address 2" to toggle between which one you would like to have showing. If it says "Address 2", click it to see address 2 - it doesn't refer to the address you're currently viewing.... If you want to see me hard at work, look in the about menu. I will hang around for 30 seconds or so and will disappear. Why the time, you might ask? Easy. Most people won't read the cute message I put there. If you know that now, you're better than most people because you saw the "Readme" file and didn't just skip it! Congratulations - you are in the 5% of people who make it a priority instead of hauling ahead into a serious mishap. Well, not much more to say about it. Sorry for the file size- it includes the Borland Database Engine to keep things standardized. In fact, if you know your way around Paradox tables, you can even play with the "black.db" file to see the data - import and export from the Blackbook program. If I lost you on that, yet it sounds incredibly interesting, let me know and we'll talk. You have just read a very neat "readme" file. I hope it was everything you were expecting, yet maintained a degree of surprise. Send me email so I can make blackbook a program to suit your needs... Jason Todd Mrportab @ wwa.com
