INFORMATION ON RE-INSTALLING SMART PIX MANAGER OR INSTALLING OVER AN EARLIER VERSION During installation your existing database files will be overwritten! If you want to keep your existing database (catalog of files and attributes), follow the instructions below: A. INSTRUCTIONS FOR RE-INSTALLING SMART PIX MANAGER (Installing v1.0a over version 1.0a) B. INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING SMART PIX V1.0A OVER AN EARLIER VERSION A. INSTRUCTIONS FOR RE-INSTALLING SMART PIX MANAGER (Installing v1.0a over version 1.0a) IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR EXISTING DATABASE: 1. Copy your database files to a temporary directory. You can find the location of your database files by looking at the datapath setting under Options|Program Options. If the entry reads '' then the database files are in the same directory as the SmartPix.exe file (usually this is c:\program files\smart pix manager\) The files you need to copy are: - Files.* (i.e. all files that start with the name 'file', regardless of extension, e.g. files.db, files.val, etc.) - Path.* - Longattr.* - Temp.* - Links.* - Blob.* - Info.* 2. Install Smart Pix 1.0a. 3. Copy the above files from the temporary directory back to your Smart Pix directory (overwriting the new ones). 4. Run Smart Pix. 5. You can then delete your back-ups files from the temporary directory. IF YOU WANT TO EMPTY YOUR EXISTING DATABASE AND CREATE A NEW ONE: 1. Install Smart Pix Manager v1.0a. 2. Run Smart Pix. B. INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING SMART PIX V1.0A OVER AN EARLIER VERSION: Who should use it: Users of version 1.0 or beta versions of SPM who want to continue using their existing database (you can determine your version number by clicking Help|About). Why have the databases changed: v1.0a uses encrypted database tables and also the maximum length of an attribute has been increased from 20 to 40 characters. IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR EXISTING DATABASE: 1. Download dbconv.zip from the Smart Pix download page of our web site; www.xequte.com 2. Unzip dbconv.zip and save the files to your Smart Pix directory (usually this is c:\program files\smart pix manager\) 3. Copy your database files to a temporary directory. Install Smart Pix 1.0a, don't run it yet. 5. Copy the above files from the temporary directory back to your Smart Pix directory (overwriting the new ones). 6. Run dbconv.exe (in the Smart Pix directory) and click 'copy fields' to update your new database. 7. Run Smart Pix, check everything is correct. 8. You can then delete - your back-ups files from the temporary directory - Attributes.* from your Smart Pix directory - dbconv.exe from your Smart Pix Directory. IF YOU WANT TO EMPTY YOUR EXISTING DATABASE AND CREATE A NEW ONE: 1. Install Smart Pix Manager v1.0a. 2. Select File|Options and click on the 'Source Directories' tab. 3. Click 'Delete All' and confirm OK on the 2 dialogs that follow. 4. You can delete the files Attributes.* from your Smart Pix directory.
