Log File Preferences

The General page of the 3DS MAX File\Preferences dialog has a Log File Maintenance area, containing controls that affect the max.log file.

Reference

Log File Maintenance

These options determine how long the max.log file is maintained.

Never Delete Log: When Never Delete is chosen, the max.log file is never deleted and will continue to grow indefinitely.

Maintain Only...Days: When this option is chosen, any entries that exceed the total number of days are removed, leaving the newer entries.

Maintain Only...KBytes: When this option is chosen and the log file exceeds the maximum size allowed, older entries are deleted until the file meets or is less than the specified size in KBytes spinner field.

Message Type Checkboxes

The following three checkboxes prevent errors from being generated as alert dialogs, which would halt network rendering for one or more servers. If all three checkboxes are checked, errors are written to the Max.log file instead. By default all three checkboxes are checked and keeping them as such is recommended.

Errors: When Errors is checked, error messages are written to the log.

Info: When this is checked, general information is written to the log.

Debug: When this is checked, debug message are written to the log.

Note: For a more detailed description of the three types of log messages see the Log Types section on the Using the Manager and Server Windows page.
