GLOSSARY

Object Motion Blur

Object motion blur applies blur at the object level and is not affected by camera movement. It works by rendering multiple copies of the object in between frames and then rendering them together. Don’t use object motion blur as a special effect. Its purpose is to add a form of temporal antialiasing to fast-moving objects, making them appear to move more smoothly.

This is one of three types of motion blur in 3DS MAX. Image motion blur is an alternative to object motion blur, and usually gives more effective results. Scene motion blur, is available in Video Post. Scene motion blur applies blur to the entire scene. Any movement within the frame, either by camera movement or object movement, causes motion blur.

If you want a motion blur as a visible, special effect, use scene motion blur (see the scene motion blur entry) with, perhaps, some object motion blur included. Object motion blur by itself renders much more quickly than scene motion blur.
