When Space Warps Become Modifiers

Space warps can now be created in two waysin the original method, as objects in the scene that are bound to the other objects they affect, or in a new way in which the space warps is assigned in the same way as an object modifier, and is carried with the object.

Reference

Space Warp: This is the original world space modifier in which you create an object and bind it to a target object. The target object is modified in world coordinates by the space warp.

World Space Modifier: For lack of a better term, at present, this document will refer to the second type of world-space modifier as... a “world space modifier,” since that term was never used in the original docs. Eventually, we’ll find a better terminology to break this down. At any rate, this new type of WSM does not exist as its own object, but is instead applied from the Modify panel, as you would a standard object modifier (or object space modifier).

The new world space modifier (or WSM) is applied exactly the same as an object modifier, but it uses world space rather than object space for its effect. You’ll find the new WSM’s by clicking the More button in the Modify panel and displaying the Modifiers dialog. The list of modifiers is now split into two categories, labeled “OBJECT-SPACE MODIFIERS” and “WORLD-SPACE MODIFIERS.” In addition, an asterisk precedes the WSM’s to distinguish them from the OSM’s. When you assign a WSM to an object, it appears in the Stack in the same area as the space warps, between the object modifiers and the transforms.
