Anatomy of the Factory

Architectural Drawings
of the
Shroeder Saddletree Factory

The architectural recording project of the Ben Schroeder Saddletree Company was sponsored by the Historic Madison Foundation, Inc. of Madison, Indiana to assist their efforts in preserving and interpreting the site as on industrial museum. The recording project was completed during the period of July to November of 1992.

The contract for field work, measured drawings, and field photographs was awarded through a, select, competitive bid to Hardlines: Design & Delineation (Bethesda, Maryland). The recording team consisted of Charissa Y. Wang, Principal; Donald M. Darst, Project Manager; and John W Nyberg, Assistant Delineator. Information for historical texts provided by John M. Staicer, Director, Schroeder Saddle Tree Factory Project; and John E. Galvin, President, the Historic Madison Foundation, Inc.

These drawings by Hardlines: Design & Delineation are an addendum to those produced by the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) from 1974 - 1976. Due to additional research and measurements, these drawings correct and update the HAER set. Historical texts for the factory buildings were updated by John Staicer between 1991- 1992.
