Yeah, if you have a pair of pliers or metal cutters, try squeezing
the mouse plug (the thinner bit at the end). This may sound like a
silly idea, but most mouse problems are caused by the metal
connectors at the end not making contact.

Also, if it's the actual button mechanism, then what I did with my
optical mouse (may have been the same type :) was to swap the actual
left and middle swiches by unsoldering them.

Of course, when my mouse finally broke, I changed to a Wizard
mouse, they're very good and I'd recommend them, even if you liked
the optical one :)
