You imply you got the HD with OS 3.5 pre-installed. So you've no idea
whether the OS installation is correct or not. If two independent
programs suffer a similar problem, it sound like something is wrong with
your basic setup.
Reinstall OS 3.5 from the original CD, followed by BoingBag1, then try
again.
