Subject: | Re: A3000 SCSI hard disk problems |
Hi
Okay to add to my previously hastly written mail, i have still been trying
to get it to work, but with little progress. I failed to mention numerous
things. The first one is that the A1200 desktop's SCSI interface is a 25pin
SCSI connector from the Viper V accelerator, where as this is a internal
50pin type, so i can't test it there.
Secondly I have tried using SCSIMounter and that reports no drives present
though when i try it with the quantum plugged in, it shows it up. I have
now tried with reselection on and off. (though i have since fiddled with
some of the smaller jumpers. without retrying with reselection.)
I have found some info on the net about the Fujitsu mechanism which is uses
(the M1606SAU), and found a good amount of info on the jumpers. The best
results were obtained with: motor powered up on startup, no syncronous
operation, reselection set to ten times, and active termination on. There
are no other SCSI devices on the bus, internally or externally.
Also i have changed some termination jumpers to (the ones marked as default
factory setting, though they weren't like it, because obviously the previous
owner had other requirements) they are: Power is supplied to the terminating
resistor from the IDD to the TERMPWR pin. Power is also supplied to the
TERMPWR pin from the IDD pin. Whatever all that means :))
The best thus far has been the drive light on the A3000 coming on, the drive
making two clunking noises and that's it, drive light stays on, and nothing
else. :(
The SCSI ID is set to 6, as per the original drive's config.
Is this any more help to solving this, or is it a duff drive?? ://
