Subject:Yet another bl**dy Amiga problem!! :(

Hello

I'm back again. I have been away on holiday so some parcels that i was
awaiting arrived while i was away; i now have collected them, one of which
was the A3000's new (second hand) hard disk, and a A5000 power supply for
the A1200 desktop which had a problem with crashing; or freezing up all of a
sudden.

This is about the latter machine, the desktop A1200. To get things
straight, this is not really my machine, just that i paid for it all for the
rest of my family to use (keep them off the A1200T and now A3000).

It is essentially a hybrid machine because the casing and keyboard is from
my older 1B A1200 now in my tower, the motherboard from the Isle of Wight
and is a rev. 2B (the one with timing problems), the floppy disk, hard disk
come from somewhere else, and the cables are left overs from the tower
conversion for my A1200T.

It has, 16MB 60ns SIMM, Viper Mk. V 68030 50MHz full processor, a 68882
50MHz PGA unit installed, with a SCSI interface and nothing attached, it
also has a 540MB IDE hard disk attached by a 44way to 40 way stack cable and
a power splicer, all ina desktop case. It was powered by a A1200 basic PSU
unit, but i deduced that the random crashes and freezes were power supply
related. (The other unit would get all hot and smokey :( ). So then i got
an A500 PSU, the heavy type.

The problem is, it still appears to freeze up!! It's also a Kickstart 3.0
and Workbench 3.0 system, and like i say a rev. 2B motherboard - which can
have timing faults. But this is only a 50MHz 68030 system, i thought these
errors occured when you used a 040/060 or PPC on 1D4s and 2Bs.

It could posibly be anything, the motherboard is faulty, the accelerator, it
can't be the RAM because i tried my A1200Ts SIMMs in it, to the same
problem. Could it be there are no SCSI deviced attached?

I'm sorry but I can't e anymore precise than this atm; it's just becioming
such a nuisance computers, all these problems when all i want them to do is
work!! :// At least the Amiga can be a bit forgiving, sometimes.... ;)

Any ideas before i get fedup with it, I already sold an A600 with 030 etc.
because the A1200 would be better; and now i wish i kept it!!

In fact I'd even go far as say buying another A3000, and a cheapy SVGA
monitor and bunging it in the desktop 1200's place, even an A4000 would
suffice. But the problem is, I don't want to spend any more money on
computers!!

All the best,
