This shows the symptoms of a SCSI-bus lock-up caused by incorrect termination.
The SCSI bus should be terminated at each end. As you're only using an internal
drive, ensure that it is plugged into the end of the cable and not a connector
half way along. Also double check that termination is enabled on the drive.
Check the motherboard for terminators - there are 3 resistor packs RP802, RP803
and RP804, or there may be empty sockts for them. RP803 and RP804 is present
will be visible just behind the SCSI connector on the motherboard. RP802 is
underneath the equipment shelf, but checking the other two should tell you
whether the motherboard is terminated or not.
If not, then using a terminator on the external SCSI port may help.
It's also worth disabling reselection. With only one drive it won't serve
any useful purpose, and the WD33C93-04 SCSI chip can be fussy.
