I can see some interesting legal shennanigans happening if anyone ever
tried to claim that. I don't even want to think about the chance of
getting the same serial number. Any lawyers about?

And in the case where you can't use the old one because it
died/exploded/was stolen? Looks like it's about as far from perfect as,
erm, oh, <insert something amusing here>

And having it explode or be stolen is? ;)

Just in case anyone asks, I'm not aware of any case where such a device
has actually exploded. I just happen to like explosions (from a safe
distance), and realise the state an explosion would leave such a device
in. They are generally quite safe devices, although I should note that if
you take the pen thingy from a Palm machine and twist the top off, you'll
find a small tool allegedly for use in resetting the machine, although you
may well be able to have someone's eye out with it. Or just use the entire
pen thingy. Just as effective.
