Not all modem-to-phone cables are the same. I've met at least 2
different configurations and I believe there's at least 1 more.
I once damaged a phone cable and bought another from a little shop
that sells car radios & phones. It didn't work so I took it back
with my modem. The proprietor produced a shoe-box full of assorted
cables and tested another. That didn't work, but the next one did.
He discovered there were 2 different types of cable which looked
identical externally.
And not all modem serial cables are the same.
John
Don't tug on that. You never know what it might be attached to.
