There is a US configuration and a UK one. The only difference is two wires
swap over. In appearance and connectyor-wise they are identical.
Most modems I have had use the USA type but my Pace modem uses the UK type -
which caused no end of confusion when I got it. Due to the fact I had one
huge 'temporary' modem lead spanning several rooms. I had to cross two of
the wires to get it to work. Of course now I have my computer in the same
room as the phone line I can just use the appropriate short cable.
You can get both USA and UK types of cable from Mapilin. They are not too
expensive so if in doubt get both, one will work and the other will not
cause any damage, you just won't get a dial tone.

Bill.
