Subject:A4000 and Picasso IV problem...

Hello
It's me again, the No. 1 source for Amiga hardware problems ;)

I haven't yet resolved the A3000 problem, i've accepted a free 540MB SCSI
device in hope it'll work.... As for the desktop A1200, fixed as well, i
had the Viper V driving the RAM to fast at 50ns, not 60ns.

Now an A4000. :) It is equipped with a 68060 board (not sure which but it's
not a Phase5 Cyberstorm, and I don't think it's a Apollo one either so it
could be a GVP ome), it has, well some RAM on it, and 2MB on the
motherboard, well 2MB chip, note no fast RAM on the motherboard though. It
also has a 1Gig IDE hard disk, a IDE zip drive, a DD floppy drive (not HD),
6 speed SCSI CD-ROM. And a Picasso IV....

Well i got it today (doing a 'little' job), and it worked to start with,
until it froze up, the display trashed and that was it. From then on it
refused to boot point blank.

After repairing a number of cables, reconnecting loose ones, fitting the 060
in properly and placing the SIMMS back in again, yoi'd think it would work.
Not so. Until I removed the Picasso IV, now it works.

As soon as the Picasso IV is placed in again it stops by not booting. The
hard disk and zip drive light stay on, and then go out a while later. I
must note the floppy drive has a bad cable and doesn't work. Though i think
the Amiga should boot after 10minutes....

I tried the hard disk in a A1200 desktop and 1200T with success, and the
Picasso IV into an A3000. The A3000 booted as normal and ShowConfig showed
the board, but Picasso 96 needs OS3.0, my A3K only has 2.1 atm. So it must
still be working.

Does anyone know what's up, could it be a dodgy A4K backplane? It does have
Super Buster rev. II btw; sorry for the vagueness of specs but it's not my
machine. I haven't tried the 060 in the A3000 as:

a) it would requiring removing the infamous drive shelf
b) i'd need to wire up the INT2 line or whatever it is :)

Any ideas as to why the A4K won't boot with the PIV in there, i have taped
up the chip RAM SIMM at the top to stop any possible shorts

All the best,
