Subject: | Another problem... :( |
Hello
Yes, I'm having yet another Amiga problem and to be perfectly honest with
you I'm sick and tired of having to mess about indefinitely to get things to
work.... Grrr...
Anyhow, hopefully someone here can help...
I have an IDE Zip drive here, it's attached to a standard Amiga IDE port, on
a splitter cable, is defined as Unit 1 or slave with the master (unit 0)
being the hard disk unit.
The Amiga boots so there can't be any problems with a wrong master/slave set
up. I have installed a DEMO version of IDE Fix '97, I would buy the full
version from Eyetech had I the money atm and if i knew it would solve my
problem.
IDEFix's FindDevice program when set to show all devices, when you click on
'scsi.device' the 1GB Seagate drive appears as Unit 0 and the Zip IDE drive
as Unit 1. So the drives are there and apparently working.
I have two zip disks here, obviously 100MB ones, and I place one in the zip
drive. Please note no dos drivers have yet been started./ /I have downloaded
the 'Zip Standard' package from Aminet.
Place the Zip disk in, the activity light goes on on the zip drive then off.
About 4 seconds later both the hard disk light and the zip drive's activity
lights come on, soon after the Amiga crashes.
When the 'ZIP0' driver has been started and device is set to 'scsi.device'
and unit to '1' - the same thing occurs, a crash. Lastly when ZIP0's device
is set to 'atapi.device' and unit '1', it does the same thing.
The Zip drive came from an A4000, and I have placed it in another A4000 (the
former one being seemingly dead - as well) which has no IDE splitter, just
an IDE hard disk and the IDE Zip Drive, a SCSI-2 CD-ROM attached to a GVP
4060 accelerator card with 32MB. Note: I don't actually have any RAM
installed on the motherboard of the A4000 - should I? Could that be the
problem - can't quite see why!!
I do not have a Zip Tools disk or such like.
When i disabled 'IDEFix' in startup-sequence - instead of the crash the hard
disk and zip drive lights stays on and on and on... Attempting to prep the
zip disk with HDToolBox resulted in errors 3, 29 and 30 (the latter mostly).
Which was emmensely helpful... ;)
My A1200T has a IDE Splitter; could it possibly work in there? It's just
that in that I have two IDE hard disks on unit 0 and 1, and it took me ages
to get them to work together so i don't want to tamper with the jumpers, and
as I understand it; IDEFix '97 demo only allows hard disks and removable
media on Unit 0 and 1. How bloody typical....
Someone please help me because I'm at the end of my tether with it all,
everything i try to do ends up going wrong, I though computing was meant to
be a pleasure sometimes; not a chore.... :/
All the best,
