Actually yes you can, Windows 3.11 (without networking ) can have the
dos msclient stuff installed (downloadable from MS website) whilst
it's not actually samba it's the same thing.

Windows 3.11 (with networking) you just select Microsoft Networking
in
windows and setup as per normal (for a MS network).

No you need a product called Trumpet Winsock, this is the equivalent
of dial up networking and had a nice walk through interface. And for
a
local interface you don't need dial-up-networking.

I must admit I do not know of a serial driver for the TCP/IP stacks
available, but you can probably find one on one of the many sites
(tucows or winsite etc.)
