A common symptom with "dyslexics" is that words appear to move around on the
page, making them difficult to read, and making it difficult to scan along
lines of text.
The reason I quoted dyslexics, is that people with this particular type of
dyslexia are no longer counted as being dyslexic. They have a heightened
visual accuity (like 7-of-9 ;-) ) which makes them over-sensitive to contrast.
Using a coloured sheet of plastic over the page or wearing coloured spectacles
often solves the problem! Different people find different colours best.
Yellow seems to be the most popular, but my son can't even look at yellow
pages. He prefers blue, and now has blue contact lenses which reduce the
contrast that he sees.
Unfortunately, the research progam that helped my son has been abandoned due
to cuts in funding, so others may not be so lucky in future.
