The price of a product goes up disproportionately once you get out of
the mass market. So a turntable twice as good as average could cost ten
times as much.

Apart from anything else, the manufacturers have to give out hundreds of
brochures to people who dream of owning the thing for every one
they sell. That alone could add several hundred pounds to the price.

I gather the Linn CD player does sound very good indeed. The jitter is
exceptionally low. So if you have that kind of money it is probably
worth it. Not if it means buying 200 fewer CDs, but some people can
easily afford both good equipment and plenty of CDs.

Is this topic relevant to Amiga?

Yes, because Amiga Inc want the desktop Amigas to be the best computers
on the market for "content creation". That includes music.

Now if analog recording to vinyl is the only worthwhile method, there's
no point in wanting an Amiga desktop for composition and editing. It
would be better to buy a saxophone. OTOH if digital sound is OK, then a
new Amiga might be useful (given a year or two for software to appear).
