two advantages. 1) no need for new cable 2) it fits the cradle.
a 3.5" will fit an A1200. a standard one may require some cutting of the
metal shield, but no more than that. if you buy it from an Amiga dealer than
you will get a special cable and a power adapter.
because of some past work, i can actually supply you with a bona-fide
2.5-3.5 adapter and power cable (for the IDE and floppy from the floppy
port) for 2 quid.

they are also faster. a lot faster. datatransfer rates of 3.5" IDE's can be
as high as 28MB/s (Pio-4 on UDMA-66) - on the Amiga IDE expect to see around
2Mb/s - the 2.5" drives usually get around 500-700k/s
