Subject: | Yam download times |
Hello all,
This is something I noticed a long time ago, but never really bothered me
until now, simply because I wasn't getting the volume of mail that I am now.
When YAM is downloading new mail there seem to be 4 distinct stages:-
i) The modem activity lights flash for a while
ii) My hard drive thrashes for a while
iii) There's a period of waiting
iv) The mail is downloaded.
Now, I assume that stage one is where the server is interrogated for details
of email held, and stage two is when YAM prepares the folder on the hard
drive to receive the mail. Stage four of course, is self explanatory.
So, what the hell is stage three? The more mail there is, the longer the
wait. I've just downloaded 342 mails, andthe stage three wait, when nothing
at all appears to happen, lasted several minutes.
What's going on, and is there anything I can do to reduce/stop it. It's
costing me money for no apparent reason at all :o(
Ta muchly,
Steve.
